Victim and Witness Information

Our office is making every effort to contact victims and witnesses in upcoming court cases scheduled in the District Court & Circuit Court.  If you believe you are a party in a case scheduled and are not sure if you need to appear, please contact us at 410-638-3500, to receive guidance regarding your appearance in court.  

Criminal Circuit Court

If you are summoned for a criminal case in the Circuit Court, you should report to the Office of the State’s Attorney, 20 W. Courtland Street, Bel Air, no later than 8:30 a.m. unless your subpoena or an Assistant States Attorney has instructed you otherwise. Witness instructions for the next business day’s docket may be found HERE

There is a parking pass attached to the bottom of your subpoena. Please place the pass in your windshield and park in the designated location. There are a limited number of handicapped parking spaces available in front of the courthouse on Courtland Street. If you need special accommodations or are unable to secure transportation to court please contact the Victim/Witness Unit at (410) 638-3243.

A neat appearance, being on time and proper dress in court are important. Please avoid wearing clothing with rips or holes, sleeveless or crop tops, exercise attire, t-shirts, shorts or cutoffs, hats, or anything too tight or revealing.

Devices must be turned off while inside a courtroom. Devices are not permitted to take or record photographs, video or other audio/visual images in a court facility. Any persons found in violation of electronic device restrictions shall be subject to confiscation of the device, a fine, or incarceration at the discretion of the presiding Judge of this court.

Juvenile & Criminal District Court

All witnesses in Juvenile and District Court criminal matters are expected to report according to the instructions printed on their subpoena unless an Assistant States Attorney has instructed you otherwise.

** The following instructions apply to persons summoned by the State’s Attorney’s Office for criminal cases in the Circuit Court on THURSDAY, November 21, 2024.    

ALL DEFENDANTS SHOULD APPEAR, UNLESS OTHERWISE INSTRUCTED BY THEIR ATTORNEY. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION DOES NOT APPLY TO DEFENDANTS.

Witnesses and victims do not need to appear if they were summoned for the following case(s).

** If your case is not mentioned, please call the office before coming to court. The office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5:00 pm. If you have any questions you may call during that time at (410)638-3500.

Standby: We place witnesses on standby as a courtesy so that they may wait at home or work while cases are worked out and prioritized. Witnesses often do not have to report to court when they are placed on standby. If a witness is needed they will be given sufficient time to report to court.
